*On June 8, 2026, The House Oversight Committee released a report stating that “Senior officials in Governor Walz’s office and Attorney General Ellison’s office were aware of credible, systematic fraud concerns in social services programs as early as 2019 within the Minnesota DHS. She Stated “I’ve Said Many Times Before I Was A Social Studies Teacher And We Have Absolutely Seen This Happen Before In History And I Know People Have Compared This To Nazi Germany And People Have Said That It Is Out Of Line And Not Even Close. It Is What’s Happening. This Is What’s Happening In Minnesota Right Now.” She Also Stated “Because What’s Happening In Minnesota Is Very Real Right Now. MNSRC: Senator Dahms, Republicans Force Fraud Protections Into Rental Assistance. “This proposal hands out $40 million with almost no accountability. Every year, Minnesota loses taxpayer dollars to state programs due to a severe lack of proper oversight and accountability. Even with the accepted amendments, these funds are still susceptible to fraud,” Senator Dahms concluded. Senate Republicans also proposed a series of amendments to prioritize legal residents, address affordability, and protect public safety. The 2023 Session Opened With A Nearly $18 Billion Surplus. “Minnesota Management and Budget officials revealed the February budget forecast Monday, and the numbers aren’t that different from what was projected in November. Then, it was $17.6 billion. Now, it’s expected to be in the area of $17.5 billion for the next biennium, which begins July 1, 2023.
